OSU receives Institute for Museum and Library Services grant

$25,000 to support data management tools

The OSU Library was recently awarded nearly $25,000 from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to develop a research model and project management toolkit to help libraries enhance research data management

The Undergraduate Library Research Awards encourage and emphasize the importance of research in order to achieve academic success, professional potential and effective civic participation. Additionally, ULRA is designed to advocate for the importance of library research skills among undergraduate students.


2018 Library Creativity Award Winners Announced

Students recognized in 2D, 3D, Motion and Wild Card categories

Five OSU students were awarded monetary prizes through the Library Creativity Award. The Library Creativity Award was established to encourage and reward students’ creativity and use of Library resources such as those found in the Edmon Low Creative Studios.


‘Tech Tuesday @2’ welcomes new series chair

Thornton names successor after three years of leadership

In 2015, Jackie German, Administrative Manager, launched Tech Tuesday @2. A steering committee was established and shortly after Nina Thornton, Multimedia Producer, was appointed the first chair of the series. During Thornton’s tenure, the Library hosted 28 hands-on demonstration that attracted close to 800 in-person attendees and more than 10,000 views on the live-stream and rebroadcasts.


Science Café welcomes new program coordinators

Neurohr passes the torch after six years of leadership

After six years of leadership, Karen Neurohr is passing the role of Science Café coordinator to Whitney Vitale, Assistant Professor and Librarian, and Hui-Fen Chang, Associate Professor and Librarian.


100 Years of Life

Voices of the Oklahoma Centenarians

The “Oklahoma 100 Years of Life” oral history project and the work that continues to build on it are a perfect example of how faculty at OSU are collaborating to fulfill each arm of the land grant mission: research, education and outreach


Edmon Low Library open 24/7 for pre-finals and finals

The Edmon Low Library will be open 24 hours each day during the weeks of pre-finals and finals. This 24/7 access period will begin when the Library opens on the morning of Sunday, April 29 and will continue until the last day of the semester: Friday, May 11, at 8 p.m.

Insert Tech Here to feature technology available to students

Join us on Thursday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in the Edmon Low Creative Studios for Insert Tech Here, an open house where students, staff and faculty can come learn about all the technology like data visualization, flight simulators, virtual reality, Adobe products and audio production that is available in the Creative Studios. Door prizes will be given away and winners of the Library Creativity Award will be announced at Insert Tech Here.

Four Libraries Sign Preservation Steward Agreements with GPO

OSU permanently preserves documents from the Publications from the Agricultural Research Service

To help Federal depository libraries meet the needs of efficient Government document stewardship in the digital era, GPO has established Preservation Stewards to support continued public access to historic U.S. Government documents in print format. Preservation Stewards contribute significantly to the effort to preserve printed documents and GPO welcomes all Federal depository libraries that wish to participate as Preservation Stewards.

Undergraduate Library Research Award

The Undergraduate Library Research Award (ULRA) is a way for students to earn recognition as well as a monetary prize for their research projects. Students who enter have a chance to win up to $1,500. If you’ve recently completed a research project either for class credit or faculty-sponsored independent study, you don’t want to miss this opportunity. The application deadline is April 9, 2018.

Library Creativity Award: Deadline April 9

The Library Creativity Award recognizes and rewards students for their various creative works. Motion/Video/Animation, 2D, 3D and Wild Card are all categories to be considered for the awards, along with Best in Show. Category winners will receive $300 each and the Best in Show winner will receive $1,000. The application deadline is April 9, 2018. Apply today!

The Great War & Its Legacy

Plowshares and Pruning Hooks: Oklahoma A&M and the Great War

This talk will focus on training preparations and the impact WWI had on OAMC combatants and the college. The United States Congress enacted the Land-Grant Agricultural and Mechanical College Act of 1862 at the dawn of the Civil War and included a provision that instruction in “Military Tactics” be included. For Oklahoma A & M College, founded in 1890, the events leading to US involvement in World War I were the first test of their military training program.

OSU Library Celebrates Authors

Celebrating Books by OSU Authors honors students, faculty and staff

The Oklahoma State University Library recently honored more than 40 OSU faculty, staff and student authors at the 12th annual Celebrating Books by OSU Authors. Forty-eight authors were honored at this year’s Celebrating Books by OSU Authors, an annual event held each spring. Celebrating Books serves as a way for the OSU Library to honor current OSU employees and students who have authored, co-authored or edited a book or published a major creative work such as a musical composition, art exhibit catalog or audio recording in the past two years.

This talk will explore Spain’s diplomatic and strategic role during the Great War and the effects that neutrality had on Spanish culture from 1914 to 1936, the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

Oklahoma State University Library hosts Veterans History Program workshop

On March 16, the Oklahoma State University Library will host a Library of Congress Veteran’s History Project training at the Edmon Low Library from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Oklahoma Oral History Research Program will provide training on conducting oral history interviews of veterans for submission to the VHP archive. Special focus for the event will be on documenting Native American veteran stories.

Remembering David Oberhelman

Library loses member of OSU family

The staff and faculty of the OSU Library acknowledge with profound sadness the death of Dr. David Oberhelman. Oberhelman served the Oklahoma State University Libraries from 1999 to 2018 and held the position of W.P. Wood Professor of Library Service. He died at the age of 52 on January 25, 2018.

Library Projects Manager receives Decade of Excellence Award

Twenty Oklahoma State University employees and one campus department were recognized for contributing to the success of the school’s energy management program, which has saved the university millions of dollars over the last decade. John DeGeorge, Manager of Project Support Services for the OSU Libraries, was among the honorees.

Women’s Archive at OSU official repository for Oklahoma Women’s Marches

Last year millions gathered in cities across the nation for the 2017 Women’s March. The photos, signs, memorabilia and other documentation of Oklahoma’s part in that event now reside in the Oklahoma Women’s Archives at Oklahoma State University.
