The Great War & Its Legacy
Plowshares and Pruning Hooks: Oklahoma A&M and the Great War
March 8, 2018
This talk will focus on training preparations and the impact WWI had on OAMC combatants and the college. The United States Congress enacted the Land-Grant Agricultural and Mechanical College Act of 1862 at the dawn of the Civil War and included a provision that instruction in “Military Tactics” be included. For Oklahoma A & M College, founded in 1890, the events leading to US involvement in World War I were the first test of their military training program.
