Open Piano Hour

If you would like the piano included in the set up for a larger event, please use the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room request form.

The Steinway piano is located in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room. It will be opened and made available by request. Events booked in the room will take precedence over piano requests.

  • The piano is available during operation hours.
  • The piano is not available during Pre-Finals Week or Finals Week.
  • There is no charge to open the piano.
  • Approval or denial of requests will follow established university library policies and will include consideration of space demands, competing reservations and staffing demands.

Responsibility of the Users

  • Submit request form no less than 2 working days prior to requested time.
  • Absolutely no food and drinks allowed on or near the piano. This includes any open or closed containers of any kind, including those containing plain water or that are empty.
  • Please keep items such as book-bags, backpacks, umbrellas, etc. off of the piano.
  • Do not move the piano.
  • Immediately report and issues or damage to the piano.
  • Accept responsibility for a fine assessed if furnishings or equipment in the room are moved. Any rearrangements of furnishings, including the piano, must be done by Library personnel.
  • Accept responsibility for any injuries to persons or damages to the facility.

Failure to Carry Out Responsibilities

Any individual or group failing to carry out these responsibilities may be denied further use of the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room and/or the piano. Charges may be incurred related to damages or staff time.
