Wanda Jo Peltier - House of Representatives 1986-1996
Wanda Jo Peltier Stapleton was interviewed May 16, 2007 as part of the Women of the Oklahoma Legislature Oral History Project. Mrs. Stapleton (Peltier while serving) was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1986 and served through 1996. She represented House District 93 and was a member of the Democratic Party. She discusses some of her legislative activities such as lobbying for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), sponsoring legislation to fly the Girl Scout flag over the Capitol legislation, opposing local measured service (LMS), and sponsoring legislation to strengthen outpatient mental health service. She also shares her efforts in working to take the Head of the Household law out of the Oklahoma Statutes and to create an incentive levy for the Oklahoma City school district and Metro-Tech.
