Dorothy Conaghan - House of Representatives 1973-1986
Dorothy Conaghan Chiles was interviewed July 2, 2007 as part of the Women of the Oklahoma Legislature Oral History Project. Mrs. Chiles (Conaghan while serving) was elected in 1973, through a Special Election, to the Oklahoma House of Representatives and served through 1986. She represented House District 38 and was a member of the Republican Party. Mrs. Chiles shares her memories of family life in Tonkawa, campaigning, and her path to the Capitol. Health insurance, issues pertaining to women, restrictions on the sale of gold paint to minors, and car insurance are some of the legislative issues discussed.
