We Will Remember Promise

About the Project

The Oklahoma Oral History Research Program (OOHRP) began The We Will Remember Promise oral history project in the spring of 2020 in collaboration with the OSU Department of Athletics. The goal of the project was to document the memories of individuals associated with the 2001 plane crash that claimed the lives of ten men affiliated with the men’s basketball program and the 2011 plane crash that claimed the lives of four people connected to the women’s basketball program, both for the historical record and to continue the promise to remember those lost in these tragedies.

A designated colleague in Athletics forwarded an informational email to families, staff, and others that had first-hand involvement with the Remember the Ten (2001) and the Remember the Four (2011) tragedies. Recipients of the email could then contact the project leader if interested in participating. With the arrival of the pandemic, some of the oral histories were conducted remotely via Zoom and/or Zencastr online platforms. The project is currently ongoing and as interviews are finalized they will be added to the collection. Anyone who chose not to be involved at the time of the initial invitation are welcome to contact OOHRP if they become interested in participating in the project.
