Dr. Sushobhan Pradhan is currently working as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University. Previously, Dr. Pradhan was working as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Villanova University. Dr. Pradhan completed his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 2021. Before joining OSU, he finished his M. Tech. in 2016, from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in Chemical Engineering with a 'Petroleum Science and Technology' specialization. He did his B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang, Odisha, in 2014. His primary research includes surface chemistry, polymer technology, enhanced oil recovery and process simulation. He has published 20 scholarly publications that includes various journal articles, book chapters and conference publications.

The depleting fossil fuel reservoirs coupled with the continuously increasing global carbon emissions have forced researchers to search for novel and alternative fuels. Researchers have found that biodiesel has certain promising characteristics that reveal its potential to replace the dependency on mineral diesel. Numerous aspects of biodiesel have been explored over the past few decades, and some of these technologies have been commercialized in the recent past. In light of the likely future increase in the demand of energy requirement, the volume of biodiesel production should be substantially increased. In order to fulfill such necessities, small-scale farm-level biodiesel units will play a crucial role in the energy supply chain as well as in national economics. This chapter aims at discussing the complete outline of how to begin farm-level biodiesel production, starting with the fundamental concepts of biodiesel, feedstocks, catalysts, types of processes, etc. Furthermore, this chapter describes the various case studies conducted by various researchers across different continents of the world as well as explains the systematic process of life cycle assessment needed to establish a new farm-level biodiesel unit.
