Jeff Fortney

author and editor of "Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting," Sixth Edition

Jeff Fortney is a senior editor at Fire Protection Publications (FPP). He has served as lead editor on the following International Fire Service Training Association's (IFSTA) manuals:

  • "Plans Examiner," First Edition
  • "Industrial Exterior and Structural Fire Brigades," First Edition
  • "Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting," Fifth Edition
  • "Vehicle Extrication," Third Edition
  • "Orientation and Terminology," Fifth Edition
  • "Company Officer," Fifth Edition
  • "Chief Officer," Third Edition
  • "Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting," Sixth Edition
  • "Facility Fire Brigades," Second Edition

He is currently the writer/photographer of IFSTA's Essentials of Fire Fighting," Seventh Edition. He has also served as a photographer on numerous other FPP and IFSTA projects over the last 14 years. Fortney served in the United States Air Force as a fire protection specialist, driver/operator, crew chief, and station captain. He also served as a master instructor at the USAF Fire School at Chanute AFB (IL) and later at the DOD Fire Training Academy at Goodfellow AFB, Texas. Before coming to OSU, he served as the deputy director of the Arkansas Fire Academy.

In his spare time, Fortney enjoys creative writing and has authored seven novels and one short how-to book. He is currently working on his eighth novel.
