Cindy Brakhage
editor of "Pumping and Aerial Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook," Third Edition and author and editor of "Fire Protection, Detection, and Suppression Systems," Fifth Edition
December 16, 2016
Cindy Brakhage has had the opportunity and privilege to work with IFSTA and FPP for over 30 years. She has worked with many IFSTA validating committees as well as served as project manager/senior editor on many of the IFSTA books. Cindy is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and has a degree in English, with an emphasis on technical writing. Cindy and her husband Rod make their home in Stillwater. She enjoys her two adorable Shih Tzus (Maggie and Annie) and loves to practice yoga.
The "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook," Third Edition covers pumping apparatus only, the second book in the pair, "Pumping and Aerial Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook," Third Edition contains the same 15 chapters as the pumping apparatus textbook, plus an additional five chapters relevant to aerial apparatus. Personnel in departments that operate both types of apparatus now only need one manual and one curriculum for training. Students only need one exam prep to prepare for testing. If a fire department does not use aerial apparatus, they use the "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook," Third Edition and omit the aerial sections of the curriculum and exam prep which include all 20 chapters.
The purpose of "Fire Protection, Detection and Suppression Systems," Fifth Edition is to familiarize fire service members and other interested personnel with the components, design, maintenance, operation, testing, and inspection of common fire protection, detection, and suppression systems. This manual is not intended to substitute for training as a fire inspector or for personnel who design, maintain, and inspect such systems; however, it can serve as a valuable resource for personnel engaged in these activities. The audience for this manual includes college students, fire service personnel, industrial fire protection personnel, building construction personnel and all others seeking information on fire protection, detection, and suppression systems.
