December 19, 2016

Brad McLelland is a senior editor at Fire Protection Publications. He got his start with the company in 2012 as an instructional developer. Brad has an MFA in Creative Writing from OSU and will publish his debut novel - the first book in a four-book middle grade western fantasy series - through Macmillan's Henry Holt imprint in winter 2018. Brad lives with his family, Alisha and Chloe, in Ponca City.

The purpose of "Fire Protection, Detection and Suppression Systems," Fifth Edition is to familiarize fire service members and other interested personnel with the components, design, maintenance, operation, testing, and inspection of common fire protection, detection, and suppression systems. This manual is not intended to substitute for training as a fire inspector or for personnel who design, maintain, and inspect such systems; however, it can serve as a valuable resource for personnel engaged in these activities. The audience for this manual includes college students, fire service personnel, industrial fire protection personnel, building construction personnel and all others seeking information on fire protection, detection and suppression systems. The scope of this manual is to provide up-to-date information on fire protection, detection, and suppression systems. The manual is written based upon the current course objectives, outcomes, and outline for the associate's level course Fire Protection Systems as described in the Fire and Emergency Services for Higher Education (FESHE) core curriculum.
