Yanqi Wu

editor of "Compendium of Bioenergy Plants: Switchgrass"

November 4, 2015

Dr. Yanqi Wu is an Associate Professor in Grass Breeding and Genetics, and holds the Meibergen Endowed Professorship in Plant Breeding of the Plant and Soil Sciences Department at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Wu earned his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 2004. Dr. Wu's research is centered on the development of new cultivars, and genetic and genomic research on important agronomic traits in bermudagrass used for turf and forage, and switchgrass for bioenergy. Four new cultivars, 'Goodwell' forage bermudagrass, 'Cimarron' switchgrass, 'NorthBridge' turf bermudagrass, and 'Latitude 36' turf bermudagrass have been released from the breeding program since he joined OSU in 2006. 'Latitude 36' turf bermudagrass has been selected as a standard cultivar in the 2013-18 National Turfgrass Evaluation Program Turf Bermudagrass National Test. Dr. Wu authored and co-authored 41 refereed journal articles and nine book chapters, and co-editor one book published in 2014. He received the 2010 Early Career Award of the National Plant Breeders Association. In 2011, he received OSU DASNR James A. Whatley Award of Meritorious Research. He received four recognition awards for proprietary technologies at Oklahoma State University from 2012 to 2014.

This book contains the most comprehensive reviews on the latest development of switchgrass research including the agronomy of the plant, the use of endophytes and mycorrhizae for biomass production, genetics and breeding of bioenergy related traits, molecular genetics and molecular breeding, genomics, transgenics, processing, bioconversion, biosystem and chemical engineering, biomass production modeling, economics of switchgrass feedstock production, etc. The book will be of interest and great value to the switchgrass research communities in both academia and industry, and a handbook for agronomists, geneticists, breeders, molecular biologists, physiologists, biosystems engineers and chemical engineers.
