November 4, 2015

Cindy Brakhage, a senior editor at Fire Protection Publications, has more than 30 years' experience editing or managing many of the IFSTA/FPP training manuals currently marketed. Brakhage was project manager of the Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook manual and currently manages the Fire Protection Detection and Suppressions manual. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Oklahoma State University. Cindy was responsible for the completion of Chapters 1-15 of the 3rd Edition. Cindy was assisted in the creation of this manual by contract writer David DeStefano; all of the editors, curriculum developers and graphic designers at FPP; the International Fire Service Training Association and a committee of subject matter experts.

The Pumping and Aerial Driver/Operator Handbook trains firefighters to drive fire service apparatus and to use the equipment on the apparatus safely and effectively. The manual covers pumping operations, friction calculations for supplying sufficient water pressure, and the use of aerial devices such as ladders, water pipes and tillers. The manual is written to standards from the National Fire Protection Association. The 3rd edition is a much needed update on and improvement to the 2nd edition, which was published in 2006.
