Betty Simkins
co-author of "Implementing Enterprise Risk Management: Case Studies and Best Practices"
November 4, 2015
Betty J. Simkins, Ph.D., is the Williams Companies chair and professor of finance at Oklahoma State University's Spears School of Business. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and a MBA and received her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Simkins is active in professional organizations and frequently speaks at professional conferences globally. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Financial Management Association and the Eastern Finance Association, is past president of the EFA, past editor of the Journal of Applied Finance, and serves on the editorial boards of nine other leading journals. Betty has published more than 60 articles in leading journals and has won a number of best research paper awards for her work. Dr. Simkins also loves teaching as evidenced by the five teaching awards received at OSU. Betty has published three books through Wiley: Implementing Enterprise Risk Management: Case Studies and Best Practices (2014, co-edited with John Fraser and Kristina Narvaez), Energy Finance and Economics: Analysis and Valuation, Risk Management, and the Future of Energy (2013, co-edited with Russell Simkins) and Enterprise Risk Management: Today's Leading Research and Best Practices for Tomorrow's Executives (2010, co-edited with John Fraser).
The purpose of this book is to provide the latest case studies for use in training risk managers in the field of Enterprise Risk Management, based on contributions written by today's thought leaders who are experts in this evolving business science. The book is intended to be useful to both educators and executives interested in the topic, and it will be of interest to risk managers in general. This book helps to fill the gap in the ERM literature by providing excellent case studies written to help further the education on applying ERM in practice. The case studies include questions at the end of the case and teaching notes for those adopting the cases in higher education courses and executive education. Cases about ERM applications in a variety of industries and types of entities are included in the book. This is a sister volume to the popular book in the Kolb Series, "Enterprise Risk Management: Today's Leading Research and Best Practices for Tomorrow's Executives," (Wiley, 2010). This book was prepared to meet the growing need for teaching Enterprise Risk Management in universities but will also be popular with practitioners of ERM.
