Melissa Noakes
co-author and editor of "Hazardous Materials Technician Curriculum"
February 4, 2014
Hazardous Materials Technician 1st Ed Curriculum is a collaborative effort of:
Melissa Noakes, Lead Instructional Developer Brad McLelland, Instructional Developer David Schaap, Instructional Developer Emily Dye, Graduate Research Technician.
"The Hazardous Materials Technician Curriculum" builds upon the excellence of FPP/IFSTA instructional materials. The "Hazardous Materials Technician Curriculum" has a design based on current research that provides the most effective instructional design for adult training classrooms. All the tools an instructor needs to deliver a course with successful outcomes for today's firefighters are provided in this comprehensive package. The Essentials Curriculum includes all classroom and assessment materials to teach a Firefighter I and/or Firefighter II course. The Curriculum includes support materials for 12 lessons: PowerPoint Presentations in a graphically based style emphasizing the role of the instructor as the speaker to reinforce the visual images, with companion Lesson Outlines containing thumbnails of slides, discussion points review questions and instructional notes. Evaluation materials include in-class learning activities and evaluation checklists for 41 psychomotor skills. Over 650 test and quiz questions allow for cognitive assessment. The Course Workbook is designed for the student to review material by chapter to enrich face-to-face classroom instruction. The Exam Prep is designed to be used as a self-study tool for students to prepare for comprehensive exams such as end of course tests or the written portion of certification exams.
