Lynne Murnane

editor of "Essentials of Fire Fighting" (6th Edition)

February 4, 2014

Lynne Murnane got her first editorial experience 0working as an editorial assistant for U.S. News and World Report in Washington, D.C. After moving to Oklahoma, she worked for the State Department of Vo-Tech as a curriculum editor. She has been with her current job at Fire Protection Publications as a Senior Editor for nearly 30 years. During that time she has been project manager, editor, or proofreader for dozens of fire service training manuals. Her duties have included serving as liaison during committee validation meetings, representing OSU/FPP at trade shows, and working with graphic designers to produce final copy for publication. A graduate of George Washington University, Lynne and her husband have lived in Stillwater for many years and have two children.

The Essentials of Fire Fighting has been the premier publication for training new recruit firefighters across North America since the first edition in 1978. Since 1978, the various editions of Essentials have sold 2 million copies, making this publication arguably the most influential training text in the fire service over the last 40 years. This new, 6th edition continues that tradition of excellence. The textbook and its accompanying curriculum materials are intended to help new recruits meet the job performance requirements of the National Fire Protection Association's standard 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. The text includes the most current fire science research, skill sheets for job performance, and the most current firefighting techniques.

Creation of this manual is also thanks to author and project manager Fred Stowell who recently retired from FPP; the other members of the FPP editorial, curriculum, and graphics departments; and the subject matter experts who provided their time and expertise to validate the manual contents.
