Leslie A. Miller was born and raised in Stillwater, Okla., and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English with honors from Oklahoma State University. An editor with Fire Protection Publications since 2002, she has written and edited a variety of books, primarily focusing on emergency response to hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction incidents. She serves on the National Fire Protection Association's Hazardous Materials Response Personnel committee, and is also a member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). "Hazardous Materials Technician" (1st Edition), is a new publication from Fire Protection Publications. It is intended as a training textbook for firefighters and other first responders who are training to meet the technician level competencies included in the National Fire Protection Association's standard 472, Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents. This textbook is currently the only textbook in the fire industry to train first responders to the technician level competencies. The International Association of Fire Fighters has adopted this text as its technician training document for courses taught nationwide. Creation of this text is also thanks to the other members of the FPP editorial, curriculum, and graphics departments; and the subject matter experts who provided their time, writing, and expertise to validate the manual contents.
