Kathryn Castle

co-author of "Early Childhood Curriculum: A Contructivist Perspective" (2nd Edition)

Dr. Kathryn Castle, Professor and Chuck & Kim Watson Endowed Chair in Education, is a faculty member and Graduate Coordinator in the School of Teaching & Curriculum Leadership in the College of Education. Dr. Castle has been at OSU since 1975. She has authored seven books, including two children's books, numerous book chapters and monographs, more than 30 peer reviewed journal articles, and numerous other publications. She serves on two national boards of professional associations and on three editorial boards of professional journals. She is a member of the Teacher Research Steering Committee of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. In addition to two national research awards, she is the recipient of the national Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher Educator Award, the OSU Regents Distinguished Teaching Award, and the OSU Regents Distinguished Research Award. Before coming to OSU, she was an early childhood teacher and the director of test evaluations for a national learning foundation.

"Early Childhood Curriculum: A Constructivist Perspective", 2nd Edition, fosters authentic, developmentally appropriate practice for both preschool and early childhood classrooms. The book examines curricular goals such as autonomy, development, and problem solving and links those goals with constructivist principles of learning. It explores ways teachers can create meaningful learning environments and choose curriculum tasks appropriately- in all content areas- that are linked to the learning and development needs of young children as well as to national standards.
