Ginger Welch

author of "The Neglected Child: How to Recognize, Respond, and Prevent"

February 4, 2014

Ginger Welch, Ph.D., is a licensed child clinical/pediatric psychologist with a background in early childhood education and early intervention. She is a clinical associate professor of Human Development at Oklahoma State University and has presented her work on child maltreatment at many national conferences. She has also taught nationally and internationally on topics related to child development, abuse, and ethics, and her work has been published in journals including Child Abuse & Neglect and Zero to Three. This is her second book.

Neglect is the most common type of maltreatment children experience. For teachers and care providers, recognizing and responding to the signs of neglect can often mean the difference between life and death for a child. Unfortunately, although neglect often causes more pervasive damage and detrimental long-term concerns than physical abuse, many caregivers are unable to recognize the signs of neglect and respond to them in an effective, appropriate manner.
