Deepak Kumar Duraivelu Rajmohan won first place in the 3D category of the inaugural Oklahoma State University Library Creativity Award. The competition is designed to encourage and reward the creative efforts of students at OSU by asking them to use techniques, skills and ideas learned during Tech Tuesday at 2 in the classroom or on their own.

Deepak Kumar Duraivelu Rajmohan won first place in the 3D category of the inaugural Library Creativity Award competition at Oklahoma State University. This award includes a $100 prize.

The competition is designed to encourage and reward the creative efforts of students at OSU by asking them to use techniques, skills and ideas learned in the classroom, on their own or at a Tech Tuesday at 2 program held in the Edmon Low Creative Studios.

Rajmohan is seeking maste's degree in food science and plans to graduate in December 2016.

Rajmohan's entry was a series of 3D printed figurines representing his family. He created this family portrait by using two-dimensional images of him and his family's faces to create accurate representations of his parents and himself. When asked about the purpose for creating this project, Rajmohan said that it was a way of remembering his late father.

"Creativity bridges the heart and the brain. My heart says what to do and my brain says how to do," Rajmohan said, further elaborating that he views creativity as a "unique dimension" capable of providing a solution to any problem.

The Library Creativity Award was launched by the Tech Tuesday Committee of the Edmon Low Library.

"The award is designed to stimulate student interest in the Edmon Low Creative Studios and in the Library in general," said Jackie German, Tech Tuesday Committee chair. "Students can use any item found in the library for the award, regardless of department. Entries don't have to be created solely in the Creative Studios."

The Library Creativity Award is funded by the Clerico Family Chair for Library Excellence. For information about the award and Rajmohan’s achievements at the OSU Library, visit http://info.library.okstate.edu/creativityaward.
