Malinda Berry Fischer graduated from Stillwater High School and earned a B.S. in education from OSU in 1960. During her time at OSU, she participated in the drama and debate clubs, the Sigma Tau Delta English Honorary Society, and the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Malinda also was named the College Yearbook Queen, the 1957 American Royal Queen, and the 1959 National Maid of Cotton. After graduating from OSU, Malinda married Dick Fischer and went on to complete the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration, the female equivalent of the then all-male Harvard Business School.

One of her remarkable firsts was being the first woman to serve on the board of Chase Manhattan Bank, Rochester Division, where she advocated for hiring more female interns and professional bankers. She was also the first woman president of the Harvard Business School Club of Rochester.

Malinda and Dick returned to Stillwater in 1995, where she became the first female President and CEO of both Thomas N. Berry & Company and The Marietta Royalty Company, her family’s oil and gas businesses. She also became the first woman to lead the OSU Foundation, serving as Interim President and CEO in 2004.

Malinda continues to serve as an OSU Museum of Art Board member, as chair of the OSU Art Advisory Council, and as a member of the OSU Foundation Board of Governors. She was recently honored by being named a life director of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Her inspiring story illustrates what is possible for OSU students to accomplish by seeking out opportunities and pushing themselves to greater heights.
