Woody at 100 Exhibit Closes April 15

Loaned exhibit concludes first visit to Oklahoma STILLWATER -"Woody at 100: A Centennial Exhibit" is now on display at the Edmon Low Library, OSU-Stillwater. This is the exhibit’s first presentation in Oklahoma. It remains on display until April 15. "Woody at 100" conveys a wealth of information about Guthrie's early life in Okemah, Okla., and his enduring legacy. The exhibit is on loan from the Woody Guthrie Foundation in New York. Guthrie’s story is told through 15 panels featuring hundreds of images including original lyrics, artwork, illustrations and photos. Topics include his life in Texas, California and New York, his family, and his career as a folk singer, writer, poet, entertainer and radio performer. Karen Neurohr, OSU Librarian, has lead the OSU Library’s efforts to collaborate with the Stillwater Public Library on a series of programs, exhibits and book discussion based on Guthrie's novel “Bound for Glory." "Woody accepted cultural, social, religious and political differences in people," Neurohr said. "His influence is strong even today. In addition to hundreds of letters, pieces of art, and thousands of pages of manuscripts, he left more than 3,000 never-recorded song lyrics, which musicians such as Wilco, Johnatha Brooke, the Klezmatics, Billy Bragg, have set to music and recorded." "Woody at 100: A Centennial Exhibit" is free and open to the public during the Library’s normal hours of operation. It is located on the second floor of Edmon Low Library. This exhibit is co-sponsored by the OSU Center for Oklahoma Studies. "One Book, One Community: Stillwater Reads Woody Guthrie" is a collaborative effort open to all ages designed to foster a sense of community through a shared reading experience and to broaden and deepen an appreciation of Woody Guthrie as an Oklahoma musician, writer and artist.
