Indian Territory Maps: The Early Years:

Map enthusiasts from around the region will enjoy two days of programming at the upcoming "Indian Territory Maps: The Early Years." The event is presented by the OSU Library in conjunction with the annual Texas Map Society spring meeting on May 17-18.

Registration for "Indian Territory Maps" includes a tour of the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, Okla. and presentations at the OSU Library on the movement of Indian tribes and the development of forts, military roads and cattle trails from Texas through Indian Territory. All presentations will also relate to mapping and the history of cartography.

Maps from the OSU Library's extensive collection will be on display during the event. The Library holds more than 300,000 maps in its collection and hosts the Oklahoma Digital Maps collection online. The Oklahoma Digital Maps collection includes the McCasland Collection, the US Geological Survey Collection, WPA Collection and the Russal Brawely Collection. All are freely available to the public from the Library's website, www.library.okstate.edu.
