Carol Headrick to portray Julia Child

July 16, 2015

The OSU Library hosts a special performance by Carol Headrick on April 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room. Headrick will present a first-person book review of the book, "Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child," by Bob Spitz in an hour-long monologue.

"We are always excited to have Carol perform at the Library," Sheila Johnson, dean of libraries, said. "Her presentations are extremely unique, and they are just something you have to see."

Headrick serves on the board of the Friends of the OSU Library, and she is an emeritus professor from the Communications Sciences and Disorders department at OSU. Headrick has performed first-person book reviews at the OSU Library for several years, and she recites each of her hour-long reviews from memory.

In her presentation, Headrick will recite from the point of view of Julia Child. The monologue will cover Child's childhood in Pasadena, Cal., her educational opportunities at Smith College and her search to find direction for her energy, interests and enthusiasm, which lead her to focus on the art of cooking. Child eventually helped start the food revolution that has gripped America for more than 50 years.

This event is free and open to the public. Drinks and dessert provided will be provided, and guests are welcome to bring their lunch. For more information about the presentation, contact Bonnie Cain-Wood at lib-pub@okstate.edu or 405-744-7331.
