The OSU Library, Access Services, has an opening for a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA’s) for the remainder of the Fall 2016 semester. The assistantship will be .50 FTE, beginning in October 2016, through December 9, 2016.

The GRA will be paid a monthly stipend of $1,050 and will work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will provide assistance at the Circulation and Information Services Desk in the Main Library. Duties include:

  • answering reference and information questions in person and online
  • helping students and faculty with the Library’s print and electronic resources
  • performing circulation procedures for the charge and discharge of monographs, ILL materials, Holds and Recalls, Document Delivery materials, and Laptops, MacBooks and Surfaces and the Library Study Rooms
  • provide supervision for student assistants during evenings and weekends.
  • This position may also assist in other duties, as assigned. GRA’s will be required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during evenings (until 2am), weekends, holidays, and/or week day hours when the desk is open.

Required: Excellent communication skills and command of written and spoken English required. Successful candidates must have the ability to work with a positive attitude towards co-workers and the public.

Desired: Previous work in a library preferred. Consideration will be given to class schedule.

This appointment, like all graduate student positions, is subject to satisfactory progress toward your degree, satisfactory performance of assigned duties, availability of sufficient funds, and compliance with all academic Department, Library, Graduate College and University rules, regulations, and requirements. This appointment may be renewed based on those same conditions.

Your 0.50 FTE assistantship requires you to enroll in at least six (6) credit hours of eligible graduate coursework relevant to your degree each semester (fall/spring) in which you have assistantships totaling 0.50 FTE. All graduate teaching and research assistants/associates (GTAs/GRAs) with qualifying 0.50 FTE appointments, such as yours, receive a full tuition waiver for eligible graduate courses; fees cannot be waived. With qualifying GTA or GRA appointments, graduate students are eligible for tuition waivers for the number of graduate credit hours designated in their graduate degree program. In addition to the above compensation and tuition benefit, the single-person health insurance premium will be paid on your behalf, given your qualifying assistantship (at least 0.25 FTE).
