WPA-Built Structures in Oklahoma
About the Collection
Dr. W. David Baird (b. July 8, 1939, Edmond, Oklahoma) joined the Oklahoma State University History department in 1978 as Chairman. His collection of slides, depicting structures built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in Oklahoma, is a tangible reminder of one of President Roosevelt's New Deal relief programs that provided a viable livelihood for many Oklahomans during the 1930s. The Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office published Phase III of a report on "WPA Structures Thematic Survey" in August 1987, authored by W. David Baird.
Acknowledgments
This work of digitizing and documenting a unique collection of slides to improve the use and accessibility of the W. David Baird collection was made possible by an 2019-2020 Improving Access to Collections Grant sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Records Advisory Board, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, and funded by the National Archives--National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
The Oklahoma State University Library is very appreciative of the opportunity to make this memorabilia collection available to the public.
