Latino Oklahoma Oral History Project
The Latino Oklahoma Oral History Project documents the histories of the diverse Hispanic/Latinx community in Oklahoma. It is comprised of several OSU student and faculty research projects focusing on various aspects of the Hispanic/Latinx community.
The majority of the Latino Oklahoma project interviews were conducted as part of Dr. Sarah Foss’ research project documenting the Latinx community history. Multiple students and faculty conducted interviews for this project including Reymundo Marrufo who focused specifically on Latinx experiences in Oklahoma. This project received a 2021 Humanities, Arts, and Design-Based Disciplines (HAD) grant through the OSU College of Arts and Sciences.
The Mexican and Mexican American Community Lived Experience, Late 20th Century Oklahoma City project was created as part of Jorge Chavez Enrique's thesis project focusing on south Oklahoma City residents and their lived experiences as the Mexican American community developed in the late 20th century.
The Spanish in Rural Oklahoma project interviews were conducted by Dr. Carol Reedy focusing on how languages are used in Spanish-speaking communities in Oklahoma to support their linguistic knowledge, language, and human rights. This project received a 2023 HAD grant through the OSU College of Arts and Sciences.
