What does Bugs Bunny, That 70s Show, and a Lucky Strike cigarette commercial have in common? Square dancing. Square dancing was once a major part of rural life, especially in Oklahoma. This month, we're taking a look at American folk dances. We'll hear oral history interview excerpts with centenarian Jimmy Ray and former square dance caller Donald Banks. In addition, Dr. Louise Siddons from OSU's Department of Art, Graphic Design, and Art History will join us to talk about contra dancing.

Laurel Henagan and Iris Owens
Laurel Henagan is a history major and economics minor at Oklahoma State University. During her time as a student, she has served on multiple ALJC missions, participated in Hope Corps, and worked as an OOHRP practicum student. After graduating in Spring 2017, she plans on attending law school.
Iris Owens is a senior German and history major from Tulsa, Oklahoma. During her time at Oklahoma State University, she has been a part of many on-campus organizations and is a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. After graduating with her bachelor's degree in history in May 2017, Iris plans to study abroad in Austria to complete her German degree. She hopes to continue podcasting post-graduation and to one day have a podcast of her own.
