Author of "Structural Fire Fighting: Initial Response Strategy and Tactics, 3rd Edition"

Jeff Fortney is a senior editor at Fire Protection Publications (FPP). He has served as project manager on International Fire Service Training Association’s (IFSTA) Plans Examiner (1st edition), Industrial Exterior and Structural Fire Brigades (1st edition), Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (5th edition), Vehicle Extrication (3rd edition), Orientation and Terminology (5th edition), Company Officer (5th edition), Chief Officer (3rd edition), Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (6th edition), and Facility Fire Brigades (2nd edition) manuals. He was the co-writer of Essentials of Fire Fighting (7th edition). He has served as a photographer on numerous FPP and IFSTA projects over the last 19 years. He is currently Lead Senior Editor on Essentials of Fire Fighting (8th edition). Mr. Fortney served in the U.S. Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist, Rescue Crew Chief, and ARFF Driver/Operator and Crew Chief at Davis-Monthan AFB, Kunsan AB, and Williams AFB. He served as a Master Instructor at the USAF Fire School at Chanute AFB and as a Master Instructor and Training Specialist at the DOD Fire Training Academy at Goodfellow AFB. Mr. Fortney also served as the Deputy Director of the Arkansas Fire Academy and Program Manager for Southern Arkansas University-Tech’s Fire Science program. Mr. Fortney has written and published eight science fiction and military action/adventure novels. He is currently writing his ninth novel.

IFSTA’s Structural Fire Fighting: Initial Response Strategy and Tactics, 3rd Edition prepares the reader to serve as the Incident Commander who must evaluate an incident, assign resources and coordinate the incident plan. This new edition encompasses decision-making during emergency response, especially initial decisions upon arrival, and incident planning. The purpose of this manual is to provide the initial Incident Commander with the strategic and tactical concepts that can be applied to various situations using available resources. This manual meets the requirements of the Fire and Emergency Services for Higher Education (FESHE) course outcome and outlines for the associates level, noncore course, Strategy and Tactics. This manual broadens the knowledge applicable to the emergency response requirements included in NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.
