David Gray
Author of "Work Better, Live Better: Motivation, Labor and Management Ideology"
January 15, 2021
David Gray is a historian of work in the United States, with a focus on how work and its rewards have been promoted by management. He recently published "Work Better, Live Better: Motivation, Labor, and Management Ideology" (University of Massachusetts Press, November 2020), which traces managers’ use of motivational campaigns in the American workplace throughout the twentieth century in the context of broader cultural and political developments and contests for power.
As a teaching Assistant Professor, Dr. Gray offers courses on a wide array of subjects including work-related literature, business culture, film, globalization, dystopia and the Tulsa Race Massacre. Among his most popular courses is Tulsa’s Public Cultures, in which students explore Tulsa’s cultural history via field trips to local museums and nonprofit organizations and guest seminars by local historians, journalists and community leaders.
