December 11, 2018

Dr. Susana Perea-Fox is an associate professor of Spanish and Latin American Literature at the Department of Languages and Literatures at Oklahoma State University. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Spanish at Oklahoma State University, and her Master of Arts and doctorate degree at the University of Oklahoma in Latin American Literature and Cultural Anthropology.

She has published three books entitled “Elena Garro y los rostros del poder” (Elena Garro and the Faces of Power); “Historias, mitos y leyendas de la Laguna Blanca, Neuquén, Argentina” (Histories. Myths and Legends from laguna Blanca, Neuquen, Argentina); and “Descifrando Latinoamerica: Género, violencia y testimonio” (Deciphering Latin America: Gender, Violence and Testimony) an essay collection co-edited with Margarita Pereaza-Rugeley.

She is working on another book, “Las mujeres de Morelos cuentan cuentos,” based on histories and legends told by women of the state of Morelos, México. She has published numerous articles, book chapters and encyclopedia entries, mainly analyzing the works of women authors and the representation of women by all authors.

Today, more than ever, the interdisciplinary study and analysis of the representation of women and other minorities in literature and in real life is of great importance. For these reasons, Margarita Peraza-Rugeley and Susana Perea-Fox published “Deciphering Latin America: Gender, Violence and Testimony,” a collection of articles written by investigators from all over the United States who, over their careers, have demonstrated their expertise in the topics.

This collection presents different and innovative analysis of the depictions of gender and violence in an assortment of texts and media, written or presented, by well-known Latin American and Chicano authors. The articles included in this collection, written in Spanish, analyzed the texts from diverse angles using a variety of literary theories in order to attain new and revolutionizing ways to understand the depiction of gender, violence and testimonial representations in Latin American and Chicano literature.
