Penny Thompson

author of "Textbook for EDTC 5203: Foundations of Educational Technology"

February 9, 2018

Penny Thompson received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology from Michigan State University, and has been an assistant professor of educational technology in the College of Education, Health and Aviation since 2012.  Her research interests include online learning, instructional video, and the intersection of technology and cognition. Among the courses she teaches is Foundations of Educational Technology, a graduate-level orientation to the educational technology field.

She created the Foundations of Educational Technology open resource for this course after searching unsuccessfully for a published textbook that covered the desired topics at the appropriate depth.  Her open access text provides students with a review of basic learning theory as well as an introduction to topics important in the field, such as communications, instructional design, technology acceptance, and classroom technology integration.
