On Oct. 8, OSU Libraries hosted New York Times bestselling author C.J. Box.

With more than 200 attendees, including Friends of the OSU Libraries members, students, faculty and staff, the H. Louise & H.E. "Ed" Cobb Speaker Series engaged Box in a discussion about his journey as an author, including his writing process, future plans and audience questions.

Known for his neo-Western and thriller novels, Box is the executive producer of Joe Pickett on Paramount+ and Big Sky on ABC, both adapted from his novels. He discussed the development of both series and shared advice with audience members about storytelling, world-building and finding inspiration in one's own experiences.

The event, a catered dinner followed by a short author talk and a Q&A session, allowed attendees to learn more about the Wyoming native. OSU Dean of Libraries Sheila Johnson says the remarkable tradition strengthens the impact of new connections and perspectives.

"The Cobb Speaker Series reflects the very best of Oklahoma State University's commitment to learning, discovery and meaningful dialogue,” Johnson said. “By bringing acclaimed authors and leaders to campus, these special events create opportunities for our attendees to engage with ideas that inspire and broaden their perspectives.”

Established in 1991, the H. Louise & H.E. “Ed” Cobb Speaker Series serves as the primary fundraising event for the Friends of the OSU Library. All proceeds from the event directly benefit OSU Libraries.

The series is presented annually by the Friends of the OSU Library to recognize an outstanding body of work that has profoundly influenced the way in which we understand ourselves and American society at large. The event is made possible each year thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Cobb family.

The 2027 H. Louise & H.E. “Ed” Cobb Speaker Series is already in early production for another great night for the OSU Libraries and author profile.
