The April 26 Science Cafe was postponed due to inclement weather and is now scheduled for May 10 at 6:30 p.m. This Science Cafe will be a screen viewing of the film "Nature vs. Nature: The Animal Victims of the May 2013 Oklahoma Tornadoes" and will feature a panel discussion including Jenifer Reynolds, producer of "Nature vs. Nature" and co-host of "Discover Oklahoma" and Jean Sander, the dean of the College of Veterinary Health Sciences.

Nicole Sump-Crethar has been selected for inclusion in the inaugural cohort of 35 curation associates. These library professionals will participate in a yearlong, "train the trainer," service-learning program.

Carol Headrick performs a first person history about the life of Helen Hayes. Hayes was an American actress whose career spanned almost 80 years. She eventually garnered the nickname "First Lady of American Theatre" and was one of only 12 people who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony Award.

On April 26, Science Cafe heads to the Stillwater Public Library for a film viewing of "Nature vs. Nature: The Animal Victims of the May 2013 Oklahoma Tornadoes" followed a Q&A with Jenifer Reynolds, producer of the documentary and co-host of “Discover Oklahoma;" Jean Sander, Dean of the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences; Todd Holbrook, equine medicine specialist at the CVHS; Jill Murray, exotic animal technician at the CVHS; Danielle Dugat, assistant professor, small animal surgery at the CVHS; and Zoe Midyett, Red Earth Feed & Tack in Oklahoma City.

The Library Creativity Award is designed to encourage and reward the creative efforts of students at OSU by asking them to use techniques, skills and ideas learned during "Tech Tuesday @2," in the classroom or on their own to compete for monetary awards. Categories include 2D, 3D and motion; $600 in prizes will be awarded.

The Undergraduate Library Research Award honors students who demonstrate the ability to perform research for useful and relevant information vital to academic success, professional potential and effective civic participation. The Undergraduate Library Research Award does not simply examine the product of research, but also emphasizes the importance of understanding the process of developing a topic and research strategy in order to locate, evaluate and use the best information possible. Awards will be given in two categories: underclassmen and upperclassmen. Winners will be awarded $1,500 and honorable mentions will receive $750.

The Noon Concert Series features students from the OSU Music Department performing free concerts in an informal setting. The concerts are open to the public. In April, Tech Tuesday dives into 3D modeling and printing. The Edmon Low Creative Studios are home to three MakerBot Replicator 3D printers and one MakerBot Z18 for large format projects. Library technology specialist Shannon Garde will cover the basics needed to start printing in the studios. These monthly presentations are an interactive showcase of emerging and innovative technologies. Tech Tuesday at 2 is held in the Edmon Low Creative Studios. Every event will feature tech-related door prizes.

The OSU Library and Department of Botany's eighth annual "Plants, People & Beyond" lecture returns to the Peggy V. Helmerich Browsing Room on April 8 for "Crimea: Environmental change from the ancient Greek colonies to the Putin Era," presented by Dr. Carlos Cordova of the OSU Geography Department. "Plants, People and Beyond" is co-sponsored by the OSU Library, Oklahoma Native Plant Society-Cross Timbers Chapter and the OSU Botanical Society.

The believability of computer-based players built into many video games ranges from abysmal to pretty good. In this presentation Blayne Mayfield, associate professor of of computer science, will examine how artificial intelligence technologies are being applied to this aspect of video games to improve the experience of human players.

This series commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Great War with discussions on all the aspects of life that changed in the aftermath of WWI. This series looks at the wider impact of the War on life and culture of the U.S. and world, and also focuses on its impact on Oklahoma, the Payne country region and OAMC. OSU librarians, Sarah Milligan and Hui-Fen Chang, will serve as lead investigators on an upcoming study by Ithaka S+R, a not-for-profit service that helps the academic community navigate economic and technological change.

The Oklahoma State University Library and High Performance Computing Center have come together to make the work of Oklahoma researchers faster and easier. The partners have brought a program called Software Carpentry to the campus

In March, Science Cafe takes a trip to the Stillwater Public Library for "Monarchs and Milkweed: Science Meets Music." Kristen Baum, OSU Department of Integrative Biology, and Mark Fishbein, OSU Department of Plant Biology, Ecology and Evolution, will lecture and be joined by the Richmond Elementary 5th Grade GT students for music inspired by the two OSU professors' scientific research.

The live conversation with Tony Hey, CBE, will be held in the Oklahoma Memorial Union Meacham Auditorium, OU Norman Campus. Following Hey’s address, Oklahoma State University Vice President for Research Kenneth Sewell will moderate a discussion panel that includes OSU chemistry’s Christopher Fennell. February's Science Cafe examines the advances in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with Dr. Heather Fahlenkamp, OSU School of Chemical Engineering, and Dr. Jim Smay, OSU-Tulsa School of Materials Science and Engineering.

The New Literacies Alliance (NLA) project is an online platform that addresses the “new” literacies required for academic success and lifelong learning and that allows students to master skills at their own pace. OSU is among the partner institutions on the 2016 ACRL Innovation Award-winning project.

Each spring, the OSU Library honors OSU employees and students who have authored, co-authored or edited a book or published a major creative work such as musical composition, art exhibit catalog or audio recording in the past two years. Recent book authors are invited to add their name to the list of honorees.

The first Science Cafe of 2016 looks into digital modeling and fabrication with speakers from the College of Human Sciences; College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology; and the New Product Development Center.
