OSU Library adds textile-focused workspace to Creative Studios

OSU Library is keeping textile skills alive through its new Heritage Arts Creative Studio, which gives patrons of all experience levels access to and education on textile arts.

Located on the first floor of Edmon Low Library within the Creative Studios, the Heritage Arts Studio is available to OSU students, staff and faculty. It contains sewing, serger, cover stitch and embroidery machines as well as a loom, vinyl cutter, spinning wheel, adjustable dress form, hand carders, an iron and ironing board.

Many people who are interested in learning these skills have not had access to the proper tools nor the knowledge of how to use them. Because many students are unfamiliar with these tools, the Library offers training and tutorials for new users.

Senior Computer Specialist Shannon Austin, who oversees the Edmon Low Creative Studios, created this space to make textile arts a more accessible practice at OSU.

“The studio is designed to accommodate a range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced, and provides access to equipment and materials that students almost certainly do not have at home,” Austin said. “The creation of this studio space provides library patrons with a unique opportunity to explore their creativity, develop new skills and connect with others who share their interests."

The Heritage Arts Studio is open on most days from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. To book a room or find more information, visit For additional information, call the Edmon Low Creative Studios at 405-744-7615 or email
