The Oklahoma Oral History Research Program has an opening for a student assistant to work 10-12 hours per week. Hours will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

What You'll Do

As an Oral History student assistant, you will reformat and perform audit checks on oral history interview transcripts. Audit checking is the process of listening to the audio recording of an interview while reviewing its transcript for accuracy, making corrections where needed.

You may also be asked to transcribe interviews from scratch. This involves typing a verbatim Microsoft Word document of an interview while listening to its audio. Whether audit checking or transcribing, occasional research to verify names, dates, and/or places will be needed.

Additional duties may include creating metadata and/or writing brief biographies (1-2 paragraphs) of interviewees.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent command of the English language demonstrated by strong aural, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Must be enrolled at OSU

MUST BE ENROLLED AT OSU.  Work Study encouraged.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Oklahoma history and places
  • Editing experience
  • Experience working with digital audio or video
