About the Collection

The OAMC World War I Collection preserves more than 400 surveys, photographs, letters, and news clippings documenting the service of Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (OAMC) students, alumni, and staff who served in World War I. The project was organized by Maude Cass, editor of the 1919 college yearbook, together with Professor Maroney of the Department of History, Librarian Margaret Walters, and OAMC President J. W. Cantwell.

Surveys were mailed to all known OAMC service members to gather details about their wartime experiences, and many respondents returned additional photographs or correspondence. In total, more than 1,100 men and women from OAMC served during the war, with another 332 enrolled in the Student Army Training Corps. Twenty-eight individuals died in service.

This digital collection brings together the surviving surveys and accompanying materials, offering a valuable record of the campus community’s participation in World War I and the personal stories of those who served.
