Fifty Golden Years

About the Collection

The memoirs of Oklahoma Judge Orlando Swain were produced in cooperation with his family. The 45 page document, which was originally prepared for the children and grandchildren of Swain and his wife, reflects on the family's history. The memoir is dated Dec. 25, 1931 and reflects primarily on the previous 50 years.

Mother and I were married on Sunday, September 11, 1881, in Gage County, Nebraska, at the home of father and mother Jacob and Phebe Lash, a few miles west of what is now Filley, Nebraska. It was a soft, beautiful September day. All of the immediate relatives were present to participate in this simple home wedding of modest county folk.
