OSU Library Outstanding Former Student Assistants

Wes Watkins

An Oklahoma State University alumnus (1960) and former Library student assistant, Wes Watkins served as an OSU administrator, businessman, Oklahoma state senator, and president of the Higher Education Alumni Council of Oklahoma. Watkins has been recognized as one of the Outstanding Young Men in Oklahoma. He is a recipient of both the OSU Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Henry G. Bennett Distinguished Service Award. From 1976 until 1990 and again from 1996 until his retirement in 2002, Watkins served with distinction as a U.S. Congressman from the Fourth District in Oklahoma. Presented in 1990.

Jessie Thatcher Bost

While a student at OAMC, Jessie Thatcher worked as an assistant to the college's librarian. In 1897 she become the first woman in the Territory of Oklahoma to receive a college degree. Following her graduation and marriage to Henry A. Bost, a fellow OAMC student, she raised a family, taught school, was active in community affairs in Alva and Cleveland, where she lived and was active in support of the University. Presented in 1990. Raymond A. Young

During his senior year at OAMC, Raymond Young held five jobs in order to complete school, one of which was assisting in the Bindery. Following his graduation in 1924, he helped establish the nationwide chain of T.G. and Y Stores. Young has used his achievements to help create opportunities for others and has made notable contributions to the State of Oklahoma. Among his many honors here: membership in the College of Business Hall of Fame, induction into the OSU Alumni Hall of Fame and receipt of the Henry G. Bennett Distinguished Service Award. Presented in 1990.

Dr. James B. Wise

A Stillwater native and a 1957 graduate of Oklahoma State University. Dr. Wise has distinguished himself as a physician, ophthalmologist, professor, inventor, and medical pioneer. He is a benefactor of the Library in which he served as a student assistant during his undergraduate years. Presented in 1990. He established the Dr. James B. and Verena J. Wise Outstanding Student Assistant Award to honor library employees
